How we clean wood
- A wood cleaner goes on at low pressure and sits for a few minutes. We hand scrub the bad spots.
- We rinse at low pressure with a wide fan tip held well off the boards. High pressure tears up the grain and leaves the wood fuzzy.
- A brightener goes on last. It neutralizes the cleaner, takes out the gray and the tannin stains, and opens the wood back up for stain.
Drying and staining
Wood needs two to three days to dry in Denver air before it can take stain. We can quote staining separately, or leave it ready for you or your painter. If you're staining it yourself, don't wait more than a couple of weeks or it starts to gray again.
Composite decks
Trex and other composite decking get a different, gentler cleaner and no brightener. What we usually find on composite is mildew in the grooves and dirt rings from planters.
What we protect
Brightener can mark metal and bother some plants, so we wet the beds, rinse them after, and keep it off railings, hardware, and siding.
Price
Most decks and fences run $249 to $799, based on square footage. Railings and spindles take longer than open boards, so a deck with a lot of railing is at the higher end.
Deck and fence questions
Will this damage my deck?
No. Everything is low pressure. The cleaner and brightener do the work, not the water.
The fence is shared. Can you just do my side?
Yes. We'll rinse any overspray off the neighbor's side, but we only clean it if they want it done too.
Do you stain too?
We can quote staining separately. A lot of customers have us clean it and then stain it themselves the next weekend.
