What soft washing is
Soft washing uses a separate pump that sprays at about garden hose pressure. The cleaning solution breaks down dirt, mildew, and algae, and the rinse carries it away. It's how we clean siding and roofs, and it's the right call for a lot of other things around the yard.
What else we soft wash
- Vinyl fences
- Painted trim, porches, and railings
- Awnings and pergolas
- Playsets and patio furniture
- Sheds and detached garages
- Stucco walls and columns
Bare cedar fences are different. They get a wood cleaner and brightener, which is on our deck and fence page.
Is it safe?
The solution is mixed for the job in front of us. We wet the plants before and rinse them after, ask that kids and pets stay inside until everything is rinsed, and give anything painted a final clean-water rinse. Once it's rinsed and dry, it's fine to use.
Dwell time
Most surfaces need five to fifteen minutes for the solution to work. We keep the surface wet the whole time so nothing dries in the sun and streaks.
Price
Soft wash jobs other than a full house wash usually run $249 to $599, depending on how much surface there is. A vinyl fence around a typical backyard is near the low end.
Soft wash questions
Is soft washing just pressure washing turned down?
No. It's a separate pump and tank, and the cleaning solution does the work. The water is only there to rinse.
Can you do just my fence?
Yes. Small jobs are fine, though it's cheaper to pair it with something else on the same visit.
Is it safe for pets?
Keep them inside while we work. Once everything is rinsed and dry, it's fine.
